About this plant

The “Scarlet Featherflower” is an open, slender shrub reaching 1-3m high and is one of the most sought after Verticordia species due to the size and colour of its flowers. Large, bright red flowers with prominent stamens appear in compact groups from August to January. Pruning after each flowering season will help to maintain a denser habit as they can become ‘leggy’ if left uncultivated, though this is more likely in the wild where they can attain ages around 100 years if left undisturbed. Found on the Geraldton Sandplains it grows best in full sun with sandy, well-draining soils where it is pollinated by nectar birds. Highly sought after, but extremely difficult to propagate.
